In the year 2105, humans have been living on the moon for over a century since climate changes rendered Earth inhabitable. A citizen of Republic Eden, 15-year-old Takeru has just completed his compulsory education and has a brief period of freedom before he is placed into society, but he gets into trouble when his self-constructed vehicle causes an accident. Sentenced to work outside the lunar dome as punishment, he discovers a capsule containing what seems to be photographs and items from Earth... Freedom is a seven-episode OVA commissioned by Nissin Cup Noodles as part of their 35th anniversary project in 2006. Amusingly blatant product placements aside, Freedom is much more than just a CM project, what with Otomo Katsuhiro (Akira) onboard as character and mecha designer and Morita Shuhei (Kakurenbo) as director. The series' first episode was released in November 2006, and the final special episode was released in May 2008.
